How much is too much for mascara? $10... $15 .... $20? Just think about what we ask it to do for us. It's a long list. We want dark, long, luscious lashes that frame our eyes and give us the perfect bedroom come hither look. We want thickening, lengthening and curling. We want dark smudge proof Liz Taylor lashes. We want mascara to stay on our lashes and off our pillow covers or boyfriend's shirts. Plus, if you are a bit of crybaby; or getting married; or going to a wedding; or walking outside during the Summer you better hope the mascara is waterproof. We want it all and that's asking a lot. Does it really shock you that high end brands want you to pay more than $7 a pop for mascara. Still $30 dollar is a lot of cash. So, we really better get our money's worth.... Ya know what I'm saying.
After, lipstick, I think mascara is one of the most important makeup items a woman can own. Finding the right one is a life long obsession and quest. Here are some of my current favorites that are pricey - but can you really put a price on beauty.
Trish McEvoy Lash Curling Mascara
Right now I'm in love with the Trish McEvoy Lash Curling Mascara in Jet Black. ($31) I used it almost everyday at work. This revolutionary tubular curling mascara forms water-resistant tubes 360° around lashes, dries instantly and will not smudge or smear. Better than waterproof, the 24-hour formula stays just-applied looking yet slides off with only warm water without leaving a trace. The innovative curling brush lifts and curves each lash for instant eye-opening curl.
Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara
TRUTH TIME! I have such small lashes. So the next product I love. I use it on my very own itty-bitty lashes. I am very insecure about my lashes. They are so short so I love a ton of mascara. I love it Dior because it never goes on too thick. I can put a lot of coats on without getting tons of clumps. Personally, I actually don’t mind clumps. ($28.50)
Armani Eyes to Kill
The best mascara remains intact all times, not flaking nor smudging, and definitely not losing color nor luster...and a thickening mascara most importantly does not flake. It's not a cute look. A fantastic mascara for girls with already thick lashes is Armani Eyes to Kill ($32). It is made of a unique formula good for sensitive eyes too. It does not dry lashes when applied. Its big brush is also easy to use also. It creates a look of curled, long and full lashes. It dresses the eyes lashes with what they call, fluid Micro-fil™ technology which creates intensely captivating lash texture.
Benefit They're Real! Mascara
They're Real ($23) Consider this mascara the no-fuss alternative to falsies. It deals lashes a one-two punch, adding both length and volume to keep them looking anything but lackluster. This formula doesn't run or smudge, even after a whole day of wear, and gives lashes a natural-looking curl without weighing them down and don’t hesitate to layer up.
Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara Multi-Dimensional Sophistiqué
Tom Ford’s new Ultra Length Mascara in Raven, $42
Tom Ford’s Ultra Length Mascara in Raven is $42. It’s designed to stretch and lengthen lashes while adding a deep, dark carbon-black color. I've been wearing it a few days now, and I like what I seen. Two coats and lashes look crazy long and dark. Plus, it doesn't flake or smudge. The tapered wand means long, sexy lashes, and a creamy formula means you'd really have to try to make it clump. And even then it won't clump. OK, but does it take you out for a latte? But truth be told…I was expecting more considering the price.

Perez Hilton had a photo of Rihanna rocking deep ruby lipstick right after the 4th of July early this week. Why can't we roll like RiRi and wear red all year round? Guess what - we can! I hate rules and if any rules were meant to be broken, it's makeup rules. So, how about this summer we put down the pinks and be bold.
I had an African woman ask me to help her pick a new lip gloss today. She was a pretty dark skin lady. I put her in NARS Sixties Fan (see above). It's a deep pomegranate color. She said timidly, "Can wear this in the Summer?" I was like, "Who said you can't?" So many rules and so little time. I'm so tired of beauty editors telling us what not to put on our face. I want permission not restrictions. If you want to put on a deeper color in the summer, for the love of god, do it. Go right now and dig around in your makeup bag and get out your favorite dark lip color. Or go buy one today, I love Chanel Rivoli too! I've listed below a couple more colors I love below.
So just to be clear. Yes, I believe that a dark lip color can be even sexier in the summer. So many women believe that warm weather calls for the frothy light hues and sure I get it. But what better way to make a statement than with a bold berry or cherry red lip worn “out of season” in a sea of sheer pinks and poppy reds? Go big or go home. This is how we work it. Try minimal eye makeup framed by clean, well-groomed brows, which is the key to making your dark lipstick of choice work for summer. Please always use a lip brush when working with pigmented shades, and try to leave the matte lipsticks in the back of the drawer in favor of a sheer or moisturizing formula, like the super-nourishing, comfortable Votre Vu French Kiss Moisture Riche Lipstick in Margaux ($23, votrevu.com). A less bold look is Bite Beauty Lush Lip Tint in Blackcurrant ($24, sephora.com) for just a touch of color. Two more great colors are below, One is from NARS and the other is from Revlon.
THINGS I LOVE!
